Day 13: Mon 30 Jun - Gyor to Mosonmagyaróvár (both in Hungary), 46km, 5hr

21-33 deg C, fine and sunny, with that ever present wind, just not as strong
Ride: 46km; total: 328km; ride time: 3h2m
Walk G: 3km; total: 105 km
Walk W: 4km; total: 102km

We left Gyor about 8:30am (creatures of habit) heading for Mosonmagyaróvár. We only stopped once, at Hédervár for mornos. We had brews to go in our insulated travel mugs and had half a muesli bar each that Wendy has carted all this way. Once we had settled on a lovely shaded park bench we sort of relaxed and had 20 winks. We arrived at Mosonmagyaróvár about 12:30, still way too early to check in. So, as it was lunch time we navigated to the nearest McDonalds and had a wrap meal each. These chicken wraps are better than the ones in Aus and are much more filling. We then made our way to Hotel Lajta (pronounced: lighter) about 1:45pm, and thankfully, our room was ready. We unloaded the panniers then took the bikes into the secure garage for storage overnight.

We took our time unpacking, with first order of the day being recharging the bike batteries. After a wash and freshen up we had another little rest before hitting the streets of Mosonmagyaróvár. A little town with a very big name! There really is not much to see here, but we needed a place to stop before hitting Bratislava. We saw a few churches, a castle and some bronze statues of old men. As we were walking down the mall, two ice creams leapt out of the shop into our mouths, traditional post ride food! We continued our wander, then back to the hotel to start the blog and get ready for dinner. We dined in tonight and it wasn’t too bad; Wendy had Swedish meatballs and Greg had grilled chicken breast with roast vegetables and both meals were tasty and filling, washed down with a zero alcohol Stella Artois beer for Greg and a Borsodi Mester beer for Wendy.

While Greg went for a post dinner wander, Wendy elected to blog.

Breakfast room at Gyor, each meal was individually prepared

Wild plums next to the bike path. There’s been stacks of wild mulberries, plums and a few cherry trees. Plenty of apples but they’re not ready yet.

You can’t help but smile when you see these beautiful flowers in full sunlight
