Day 42: Tue 29 Jul - Potsdam

14-22 deg C, overcast in the morning, clearing to a beautiful sunny day, then overcast with a few spots of rain on and off for the afternoon
Walk G: 10km; total 327km
Walk W: 9km; total: 291km

Yay, we survived the first half of the trip, and we are still enjoying it. And, we took the advice of whoever commented on the Blog that Potsdam deserved another day, and booked a third night.

We had a later than usual breakfast, then did some planning for today’s agenda. The weather was not that flash this morning so our late start, was not wasted. Basically, we did the Innen-Stadt (City Centre) today and saw lots of interesting old buildings. We didn’t venture into any of the museums as we have already seen the inside of a lot of similar ones in our European travels. We did venture into the main transport station, mainly to look for a WC. We eventually found one and had to pay €1 to pee; a very expensive pee! Lunch was had sitting in the steps leading to a small harbour/quay, directly in front of an ice cream shop; so yes, we had to have dessert.

Just as we left the harbour, the sun decided to come out so when we reached St Nicholas Church, we were able to photograph it in beautiful light. Inside was pretty special too. Shortly after leaving that area, the clouds moved in again and so did the drizzle.

We wandered home via a few more things to see, before acquiring dinner and heading back to the hotel where we relaxed for a bit. Wendy then got down to finding a suitable route from Berlin to Wittenberge, and then accommodation to suit. Having explored many options, we really haven’t decided on any particular option. There appears to be a little blank spot in the German cycle route in the area we need to go. It maybe that we’ll have to end up booking a train ticket when we arrive in Berlin. It can wait until we get there.

The night time routine followed.

Didn’t even think to see the other side, apparently it is very different as the gate was designed by two different architects
