Day 14: Tue 1 Jul - Mosonmagyaróvár (Hungary) to Bratislava (Slovakia), 40km, 4hrs

16-31 deg C, a little cooler to start the day, fine and sunny with a light breeze
Ride: 40km; total: 368km, ride time: 2h49
Walk G: 6km; 111km
Walk W: 8km; total: 110km

We set off 15 mins later than our usual start time only because we knew we had s shorter distance and a later check in time of 3pm. Although it was a wonderful ride today, there wasn’t a great deal to stop for. Of course there’s always churches to see; according to you know who. Sadly they were both locked so we could only photograph them from the outside. It took us ages to find a decent spot to drink our prepared brews. We were actually within 10km of the hotel, about 11am when Greg found a recreational lake on the outskirts of Bratislava. We chatted for a while, watched the swans and people pass by and play in the water. We eventually moved on.

The last 10km took us about an hour, such is the city of Bratislava. We had to cross a number of bridges in succession, with no linkage other than having to get off one bridge then find the path onto the next one; talk about stressful! Greg did an amazing job of navigating and we eventually found our hotel - LOFT Hotel Bratislava. Even though we were almost two hours early, Wendy decided to try her luck; most hotels will let you check in but not let you occupy your room until the allotted time. However, we were in luck, and our room was ready. An extra bonus was that Greg did not have to pay City/Tourist Tax because he is over 70!  We were given room 609, on the top floor of the hotel. Not only does the hotel have a free minibar, restocked on a daily basis, they also have a wine dispenser for the top tier rooms. The minibar has water, water with bubbles, Pepsi, Pepsi zero, a raspberry flavoured lemonade (two of each drink), and two beers. Wendy was also given a wine credit card to the value of €8 for the stay to use on the wine dispenser in the hallway. There are also two plates of yummy snacks beside the dispenser.

After unpacking, etc, we went for a wander to and through the Old Town. On our way back to the hotel we stopped at Sushi House for dinner. Greg had a Bento Box and Wendy had Pad Thai Gai that tasted pretty darn good! With full bellies, Greg went for another wander and Wendy went home to start the blog.

Another full and interesting day on tour. Two weeks down, 10 to go!

There were lots of these on the route today

Catholic Church at Bezenye, c1812

A couple of headers drove by the church, it’s harvest time for the wheat.
