Today we did Sanssouci Park; what an experience! It’s a world renowned park with distinctive, terraced grounds and a World Heritage fountain at its centre. For more than 250 years, the highest level of garden design has united with works by the most competent architects and sculptors of their time. The park comprises over 300 hectares, has 60 gardens, 1,000 sculptures and in one palace alone there are more than 230,000 plants. Because bicycles are forbidden on most of the paths, except the external ring road, we decided to walk. We started at Ruinenberg, which is in another park closer to our hotel. You can read more about each palace in the photos below. We basically followed the tourist map to Schloss Sanssouci, the Historic Mill of Sanssouci (closed for renos), Nordic Garden, the Sicilian Garden, Orangerie from a distance as it was temporarily closed, the Chinese Tea House, and lastly The Church of Peace at Sanssouci. There is a lot more to see, however, we ran out of energy and a desire to see yet another amazing palace. There are seven palaces within the park all up. We would probably have to stay another week just to do all the palaces in this park, not counting the other attractions we haven’t seen in Potsdam.    

We retreated to our room for a breather. After lunch and a rest, Greg went out on the bike for a leg stretch and to recce the route for tomorrow to Berlin. It is only 35km, so we will enjoy taking our time!
