Day 66: Fri 22 Aug - Osnabrück to Münster, 75km

12-21 deg C, cloudy all day
Moving time: 4h17m; elapsed time: 6h06m
Total ride G: 2,004km
Total ride W: 1,959km
Walk G: 4km; total: 517km
Walk W: 3km; total: 446km

We rode away from the hotel just before 9am; it was cool (despite the heatwave in other parts of Europe) with light rain. We’d already put our spray jackets on for the temperature, (13deg C) and as it turned out that was all we needed as the rain pretty well stopped before it really started.

We connected almost immediately with the EV3 route and straight onto a great path. The first 21.7km was mostly uphill with a few fairly steep ones (max 10.3%) thrown in. Once that was out of the way it seemed easy going from then on and a very pleasant day all around.  As we elected to stay away from busy roads, we ended up zigzagging across the countryside with only a few villages being visited all day. The roads we did ride on were just about devoid of any traffic at all, in fact the tractors outnumbered the few cars on them easily.

We did find one church to visit, and as it had an ice cream shop opposite, we ended up killing two birds with the one stone. It was also an excuse to slow down as we were getting ahead of our planned 3pm arrival time in Münster.

We ended up arriving at 2:59pm, which was acceptable to the check-in police at the hotel. After a shower and change we headed out looking for some warm food as the temperature hadn’t risen much above 20deg C all day. The cool breeze was still sneaky.

Warm food craving satisfied we wandered off to the Old Town for a preview. Looks good so we can explore it tomorrow. Tonight it’s too cool for school so it’s back to a warm room.

Wendy had an altercation with a blackberry cane during a comfort stop, and came off second best!

Some of the paths we travelled on today

A short video of us coming down from the long climb

This was the downhill section. When we first saw it on the map we thought that it was an uphill section with a lot of switchbacks. We were glad to be wrong.

We loved this short ride through the forest

Mornos stop near Lienen

Lunch stop near Kattenvenne

A really nice, well kept farmhouse, with some spooky statues outside; just after our lunch stop
Maybe it’s to keep the burglars away.

Ice cream/church stop at Ostbevern

St Ambrosius at Ostbevern

This is a nice little side chapel
