We have been doing this for 10 weeks now! In some ways it has gone really fast, but then you think back on where you have been, then it doesn’t seem so fast!
Wendy woke with a gamy left wing, so after breakfast she stayed home and did more hotel research and bookings (all done now) while Greg went wandering.
If you’ve seen enough churches and fountains go no further, because, although Greg doesn’t get sick of either, that’s about all there was today. One nice thing about the churches in Dortmund they were all open and he didn’t have anyone waiting for him to come out. All of them were extensively bombed during WWII so what we’re seeing today is a very simplified version of the originals. After the War there wouldn’t have been any money around to rebuild them to their former glory. It particularly shows up in the stained glass windows. He saw plenty of other post-war buildings, like the town hall, theatres, opera house etc, all very plain and modern. He could only dream about what the originals for these would have been like. War is good for nothing!!
He came home for a break and to eat some lunch. However it wasn’t too long before his legs started to twitch so he grabbed his bike and rode out to the Botanical Garden. They were okay, but they are cold climate gardens with all the restrictions that this brings.
We ended up trying the food court at the big shopping complex for dinner. We both had Asian and it was pretty good.
