Had to wait until it warmed up a bit before venturing out on our morning wander. Although we had a basic tourist map, (which we’ve worked out are pretty much useless), we didn’t have anything planned. So we just set off and let our legs take us places. Ended up in the city centre, the riverfront, some parklands and some other things in between.
Greg twigged that he had called into Nijmegen when on tour from Zurich to Amsterdam in 2012, with another GW, mate from the UK. They didn’t stay over, just had a coffee in the town square. There was a fresh food market in the square that day too, like there was today. The Europeans really love their fresh food and it gives us a great opportunity to view what they like to eat. The fresh seafood and the cheese merchants seem to do very well. Greg’s mouth was watering when he saw the variety of fresh seafood on offer, but as we have no cooking facilities we have to eat out or buy something from the supermarket ready to eat. We particularly enjoy the range of ready to eat salads available at all the various supermarkets. We try to keep it healthy but every now and again when we’re walking past a bakery the naughty gene takes over and buys a bun or a croissant.
After a few hours we’d both reached our limits so it was back to the room for a break. It wasn’t too long before we struck another blow and ventured out. No matter how much you walk around there’s always something new to bump into for a look and or a photo. Eventually we called it quits for the day and went back to the hotel to get ready for our ride tomorrow; deeper into the Netherlands.

We just could not resist the temptation - Greg had the ‘hot dog’ looking one and Wendy had the custard croissant. They look a lot sweeter than they tasted. Still very good though.
